HIGHLIGHTS
- Nepal launched their first space satellite with the help of U.S.A.
- Satellite was named Nepalisat-1 & was launched at 2:31 A.M (Nepalese time) from Virginia situated in U.S.A under the BIRDS project.
They developed this satellite under the BIRDS project launched by the United Nations for helping nations to launch their first satellites into the space & creating opportunities to become a space power in future.
Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli congratulated all the people behind this mission & the citizens of Nepal as he quoted :-
"Though a humble beginning, with the launching of NepaliSat-1 Nepal has entered the Space-Era. I wish to congratulate all those scientists and institutions that were involved right from the development to its launching thereby enhancing the prestige of our country".
SOME FACTS ABOUT NEPALISAT-1
- It will circle around earth at about 400 kilometers from the earth's surface.
- Firstly it will be stationed at International Space Station (ISS) for over a month & then it will be sent to orbit around the earth.
- Total money invested behind this is Rs 20 million (Indian currency) & Rs 32130439.24 ( Nepalese currency).
- Satellite weighs around 1.3 kilograms & is sent over to serve only a limited purpose.
- Satellite has a Nepali flag, NAST logo & name of the scientists involved behind this successful mission.
